Practical tools for sorting your digital photos

It is not a surprise to admit that most of us have become “crazy” photo takers since our phones have cameras. And yes, it is definitively a great thing being able to easily capture our experiences and special moments, but I also know how frustrating getting a full memory in our devices can be. Or even worse, losing it all before we can even back it up or print it.

This is not a post for only “amateur” people but for intentional photographers that enjoy to register their family, travel or creative projects with their last generation smartphones. So you don’t have to worry about space limit while you still get to administrate your images in a way that makes sense for you.

So here we go with my main suggestion: digital organizer apps!

Criteria for doing your app selection

When looking for digital photo’s organizer apps first thing you might want to consider is how easy it is to use and navigate. The idea is to make things smoother and simpler with an interface that facilitates uploading, managing and organizing your photos.

Compatibility is another factor to think about when choosing your best photo organizer. It should work well not only with smartphones but cameras and tablets operating systems, such as Android, iOS and Windows. A good compatibility means you will be able to organize your photos in any type of device you are using.

Generally, you will want to choose the one with enough storage capacity and cloud functionality for you to have full access to your photos when connecting to Internet.

Organizational features and editing settings are other important aspects I would like to mention about what a good photo organizer should have. These are features that allow you to categorize and tag photos, easily search for them based on date, location, and even the people in the photo. Plus editing photos directly from the app and managing the dates and times they were taken.

With all that being said, let’s start to list and describe some practical tools for sorting your digital photos.

APPLE PHOTOS

For those of you who are Apple fans like me, I am sure you know it perfectly because it is the program to store photos that come by default with their computers. It is intuitive and allows you to share images from your different Apple devices. It has many cool editing tools and if you want to share your images on social media, you can do it quickly in an easy way.

Another wonderful feature it has is that it allows you to design your photo book without leaving the app. The results of the book in terms of design and quality are very good.  Apple photos is a super complete program to make your life immensely easier while organizing your digital content.

GOOGLE PHOTOS

It is a classic one within the most used and recommended apps for storing and organizing photos. It provides amazing cloud storage and a very effective search engine to find images. Thanks to an elaborate algorithm, it is very easy to use and highly practical since it automatically classifies photos according to what appears in them. You can back up your files directly from your mobile device and it is integrated with Google Drive.

It also allows you to make basic and advanced editing adjustments, make animations and collages, scan old photos, create albums shared with other people, or view photos on TV. Sharing images with friends and family is also very simple, you can do it via WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, Twitter, etc. And finding photos based on location, time, and the faces in them.

ADOBE LIGHTROOM

Not only is it a powerful editing tool, it is also a wonderful image organizer so you can handle your whole photographic process at once instead of having several apps to sort your projects out. If you are already using Lightroom, when you get to know its organizational capabilities you will be more than pleased.

Images here can be organized by folders, score and EXIF data (lens type, ISO, keywords or location). To take advantage of all its possibilities, it is much better if you study a little about its operation and functionalities before you start organizing them, so you can find the most efficient system for your work method. I suggest watching YouTube videos for this purpose, there are plenty of them that can be very helpful and easy to follow.

MICROSOFT PHOTOS

This is one of the main competitors to Google Photos and comes with many similar features. With this app, you will have basic editing tools that will allow you to give your photos a special look, including red-eye removal tools. Its OneDrive integration allows you to back up your photos to the cloud and then directly uploading photos to social networks once organized.

Microsoft Photos incorporates automatic album creation based on facial recognition technology, which makes organization much easier. Most people like the overall simple interface and how exceptionally makes it easy to navigate through photo folders, keeping things organized and tidy at the same time.

Did you find this information any helpful? I really hope you did and I promise you it is more practical and easier than it might seem. Using them IS worthy and will help you to declutter your devices while managing what you actually want to keep for your records and special memories.
